Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course at Utkal Aerospace & Engineering

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) are the real heroes of aviation safety. They ensure that every aircraft in the sky operates with complete airworthiness, mechanical integrity, and top-notch performance. At Utkal Aerospace & Engineering, we train students to take on this critical responsibility with the highest level of skill and precision.

Become the Guardian of Flight

Our Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program is designed to equip aspiring engineers with in-depth knowledge of aircraft systems — from airframes and engines to complex avionics. Through immersive classroom sessions and rigorous hands-on training, students learn how to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of aircraft components. By combining cutting-edge technology with real-world scenarios, our course transforms students into professionals who play a vital role in ensuring the safety of every flight.

DGCA-Approved AME Training Program

Our AME course is fully approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India, and follows the regulations set under CAR-66. These standards are aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring our graduates are globally competitive and industry-ready.

At Utkal Aerospace & Engineering, students can choose from two primary streams:

AME Mechanical – B1.1 Category

AME Avionics – B2 Category

Course Highlights

Duration: 3 years (as per DGCA guidelines)

Training Method: Classroom theory + Practical sessions on actual aircraft

Tools & Labs: Fully equipped workshops including engine labs, airframe shops, avionics labs, and more

Certifications: Students are eligible for AME licenses after meeting the required training hours and clearing DGCA examinations

Why Choose This Career Path?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are indispensable in the aviation ecosystem. No aircraft in India—be it a commercial airline, private jet, government plane, or emergency aircraft—can take off without the final airworthiness certification from a licensed AME.

This legal requirement is governed by:

  • The Aircraft Act, 1934
  • The Aircraft Rules, 1937
  • CAR-66 DGCA Licensing Guidelines

AMEs are in high demand across:

  • Domestic and international airlines
  • Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facilities
  • Aircraft manufacturing companies
  • Aviation training organisations and more

Frequently Asked Questions

The specialist discipline of aircraft maintenance engineering (AME) is dedicated to guaranteeing the airworthiness, safety, and dependability of aircraft. AMEs are responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing aircraft systems, including engines, electronics, and structural components. Their work is critical in preventing mechanical failures and ensuring compliance with aviation safety regulations. Trained and licensed professionals, AMEs play a key role in both scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs. The profession demands strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. As air travel expands globally, the demand for skilled aircraft maintenance engineers continues to grow, offering promising career opportunities worldwide.

To guarantee safety and airworthiness, an AME is in charge of inspecting, maintaining, and repairing airplanes. They troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, perform routine checks, and certify that the aircraft is fit for flight, following strict aviation standards and regulations set by aviation authorities.

The minimum qualification to join AME is passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised board. Alternatively, candidates with a three-year engineering diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering are also eligible. These qualifications ensure that students have a strong foundation in science and technical subjects, which is essential for understanding aircraft systems and performing maintenance tasks safely and effectively.

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) course is officially approved and recognised by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which operates under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. The only regulating body in the nation for civil aviation is the DGCA. In addition to enforcing aviation safety regulations and guaranteeing aircraft airworthiness, it supervises and controls air transport services to and from India. DGCA also collaborates with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) on regulatory matters. Since this is a specialised aviation program governed by DGCA, it does not require recognition from bodies like AICTE, UGC, or NCTE.

Licensed AMEs can work with domestic and international airlines, aircraft manufacturing companies, maintenance repair organizations (MROs), and government aviation departments. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and airworthiness of aircraft, making them vital to the aviation industry. Opportunities also exist in sectors such as defense aviation and research organizations. This field not only offers job stability and good salary packages but also provides international career prospects for experienced professionals.
